Summer isn’t officially here yet and we had a heat wave – in the first week of June ! It’s too early in the season. Where’s the spring showers when you need them? And since it’s too hot to do anything outside, I decided to plan my new garden bed for fall. It’s approximately 9′x26′ that used to be my husband’s beautiful, green lawn. Right now it is bare and covered with mulch (to kill the grass), but come spring I hope to see my potted Japanese Maples (Acer Palmatum ‘Chitoseyama’ and ‘Kiyohime’) from the kitchen. I like to garden in the fall – it’s much more relaxed. If you missed planting a couple of shrubs or perennials, you can always overwinter it in the garage. With spring, its like a 100-meter dash. You have to wait until the last frost date and then its a mad rush to do everything until summer came bearing down. Or, in my case plant until the first heat wave of the season.
