Let it rain…
May 17, 2008
Mid-spring only means one thing – its tree pollen season. And here, in the corner of the world where we live, its the peak season. Usually Zachary can get by with only a nose spray and eyedrops but these past few days he’s on Zyrtec every day. Poor guy, good thing he’s taking it in stride. Not me, though. The past year I had the false cypress, boxwoods and thujas cut down in our yard. I replaced them with pollen-free shrubs and perennials. The book Allergy-free Gardening by Thomas Ogden is my bible. Our air purifier runs all night long and forget about opening the windows to let the fresh air in. But no matter how high the pollen is, I let him play outside. I want him to love the outdoors, appreciate nature and just be a normal 6 year old kid. After all, its my job to protect him.
Once in a while, it rains all day, like yesterday. It washes all the pollen that make him sneeze, have itchy eyes and have a runny nose. And even if me and Zeke watched Spiderman and Bunnytown all day, its a relief. Just let it rain.
